Bambos Charalambous MP opens Waitrose Winchmore Hill

Waitrose Winchmore Hill opening

Bambos Charalambous MP unveiled Winchmore Hill’s new Waitrose this morning (Thursday, 12th October).

He was joined by Waitrose store manager, Aman Sandha, and the Waitrose team to cut the ribbon and welcome the shop’s first customers.

The new 6,000 sq ft shop will provide thousands of products, as well as a bakery area, indoor and outdoor seating, and John Lewis ‘Click and Collect’ service for online purchases. The shop also has a car park to accommodate those driving to the store.

In addition, Waitrose Winchmore Hill today launched its Community Matters ‘green token’ initiative, which will see £6,000 donated to local projects and causes every year. At the end of each month, £500 will be shared between three good causes according to the number of tokens received from customers.

The first charities to benefit from the shop’s Community Matters scheme are Winchmore Hill Community Care, Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice and The Ruth Winston Centre.

Forty employees will work at the shop, with many living locally in the area. All employees are Partners in the John Lewis Partnership, the UK’s oldest and largest employee owned business, entitling them to benefits including learning and leisure subsidies, shopping discounts and a share in the company’s annual profits in the form of an annual bonus.

Store Manager, Aman Sandha, said:

“The opening has enabled us to bring a vacant premises, which is located in a prominent position in the high street back to life while retaining much of the building’s heritage.

“We cannot wait to welcome new customers with our fantastic range of food and drink and are looking forward to playing a positive role within the high street for many years to come.”
