Waitrose Food and Drink Report 2017 Cover

Total sales excluding fuel were 0.5 per cent down on last year, in part due to the different timing of promotional activity compared to the same period in 2016.

Total Halloween sales finished at 14 per cent up on last year, with Hallowe'en flowers faring particularly well at 12 per cent up.​ ​

The Waitrose Food and Drink Report 2017-18 was well covered in the media revealing comprehensive new consumer research and insight showing that people have become more flexible in their shopping patterns, more price-savvy and more single-minded than ever before.

It showed that 65 per cent of Britons visit a supermarket more than once a day whether on a regular or occasional basis and over half of shoppers don't decide what they are having for dinner until lunchtime.
