The Good Food Guide has announced its top restaurants and award winners today.  Alongside the finest dining establishments in Scotland and the rest of the UK, the guide, owned by Waitrose, celebrates quality eateries and discoveries. This year, they include an Editors’ Award for Restaurant of the Year (out of the whole of the UK), one restaurant in the Top 10, five restaurants in the Top 50 and 12 new entries.

The Good Food Guide is compiled by combining reader feedback on restaurants up and down the country with anonymous inspections by a team of industry experts.

Editor’s Awards

This year’s Editor’s Award for Restaurant of the Year has been awarded to a Scottish restaurant, The Three Chimneys on the Isle of Skye. It has also made its first appearance in the Top 50 this year, ranking at no.25 with a cooking score of seven.

Speaking of The Three Chimneys, Elizabeth Carter, Editor of The Good Food Guide comments, “It is superbly satisfying to come across a restaurant that knows just what it’s doing, without seeming to try.

“Chef Scott Davies is evangelistic about Skye’s culinary heritage and his menus are strongly rooted in the immediate area – most ingredients come from a 20-mile radius. This is where The Three Chimneys truly excels, and makes its mark: in the quality of those raw ingredients and in the rich depth of flavour that distinguishes every dish. This is memorable, engaging cooking served by a proud team.”

Scott Davies, Head Chef at The Three Chimneys, comments on their award, saying, “As chefs in the kitchen we have our heads down with the blinkers on, getting on with the job. So it was a bolt out of the blue to get a call from the Editor of The Good Food Guide and find out that The Three Chimneys has won Restaurant of the Year. I was so thrilled. Even happier because the award celebrates our closeness to our suppliers, the seasonality of our produce, and of course good food and great service. So it is a huge honour for all of the team at The Three Chimneys and our local community."

Top restaurant in Scotland

Restaurants from across the country that have made it into the 'UK’s Top 50 Restaurants' have been unveiled, with the top-scoring restaurant in Scotland named as Restaurant Andrew Fairlie in Auchterarder, Tayside, reaching no.8 in The Top 50 with a cooking score of eight.

The Good Food Guide comments that “A French approach to outstanding Scottish produce, including vegetables, herbs and flowers from the kitchen garden, results in dishes that have an obvious classical gloss.”
