The Good Food Guide 2018 reveals its best restaurants in Wales

Good Food Guide 2018 Cover

The Good Food Guide has announced its top restaurants and award winners today.  Alongside the finest dining establishments across the UK, the guide, owned by Waitrose, celebrates quality eateries in local areas, including two new entries and three restaurants in The Top 50 from Wales.

The Good Food Guide is compiled by combining reader feedback on restaurants up and down the country with anonymous inspections by a team of experts.

Best restaurant in Wales
Restaurants from across the country that have made it into the 'UK’s Top 50 Restaurants' have been unveiled, with the top-scoring eatery in Wales named as Ynyshir in Eglwysfach, West Wales, ranking at no 12 with a cooking score of 7. The restaurant has rocketed up the Top 50 from number 40 in last year’s guide.

Elizabeth Carter, Waitrose Good Food Guide Editor, notes of Ynyshir that, “It may be a destination restaurant, but it doesn’t take long to realise that this fine country manor house doesn’t have too much truck with tradition and convention.

“Gareth Ward’s menu is a clever and meticulous no-choice affair - a celebration of local produce infused with Japanese flavours and real skill. But most of all, his cooking is about flavour.”

Restaurants in Wales that appear in The Good Food Guide’s Top 50
The Top 50 recognises the very best talent in the country; a place on the list represents a huge achievement, with each position earned by its score in The Good Food Guide, editor appraisal and strength of reader feedback.

Welsh restaurants also featuring in the Top 50 this year alongside Ynyshir are:

•    Restaurant James Sommerin in Penarth, Glamorgan which comes in at no.35 with a cooking score of 7
•    The Whitebrook in Whitebrook, Gwent ranks at no.49, also with a cooking score of 7

New Entries
There are two new entries to this year’s Good Food Guide from Wales:
•    Asador 44 in Cardiff, Glamorgan, “a well-run, informal restaurant backed up by faultless, knowledgeable service.”
•    Beach House in Oxwich, Glamorgan, noted as being “A brilliant new addition to the guide – a cracking restaurant for Wales in a fantastic location.”
